Slaughter of cows labeled "organic"... risk of contamination? ?
Ok so my lighthearted reading for the New Year was Fast Food Nation. It described conditions of slaughterhouses for the largest distributors, and I want to know if the slaughtering of USDA organic cows is as corrupted and prone to contamination of the meat with stomach and intestinal matter-- and I want to see a researched answer. It's disgusting and horrific and can make anyone want to become a vegetarian, but I want to know.
Well, the problem is that everything labeled organic is not always organic. They did an investigation of 3 so-called organic meat producers and 2 of them were secretly keeping animals in factory like conditions. I read the article about a year ago so I cannot tell you it's exact name but I'm sure you will be able to find it. All animals die the same way no matter what slaughter house they are in (some treat animals better then others though). The government has specific orders on how to kill the animals. Organic just means that they were able to roam freely before they are killed. Also, they were not pumped with hormones and pesticides.
