NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION… YOUR DEADLINE IS HERE! BEWARE…..
Non Profit organizations, the ones with less than $25000 gross receipts, must now file an electronic report also known as the E post card – form 990-N on or before October 15, 2010 if it has not filed as of May 17, 2010. If the organization has not filed for the past three (3) years, it must file timely this year if it wants to keep the non profit status. NO fine is assessed if the previous years filing is made along with the current one but it must be made on October 15, 2010 to avoid losing the non-profit status.
This relief is not available to larger organizations which are required to file form 990 or to private foundations which file form 990-PF.
Donors who contribute to these small organizations need to be aware of this latest requirement because non-profits organizations which do not file timely will have their tax exempt status revoked, a definite loss for the donors and the organizations which rely on the support of its donors. It is estimated several thousand of non-profits have not yet filed.
Hurry and file timely and on line so your organization does not become a statistic. A list of the organizations that were at risk t the end of July is posted at the Internal Revenue website along with the instructions on how to comply with the new law.
Tax exempt organizations eligible to file form 990-EZ must file their annual information returns by October 15 and pay the compliance fee.
